Are you a Ukrainian refugee who has questions about your pet animal?

The Norwegian Animal Protection Alliance (Dyrevernalliansen) focuses on helping animals in intensive farming and does not work with pets or provide rehoming services. However, here is some practical information for pet owners in your situation:

  • If you brought your pet to Norway: Register it with the Norwegian Food Safety Authority. Pet Registration Formand additional information can be found here.
  • If your pet is an amphibian or reptile: Follow guidance from the Norwegian Environment Agency. More information here.
  • If your pet is in quarantine: Pets in quarantine must stay there until the period ends, after which you will be reunited.
  • If you need accommodation with your pet: Many hotels do not accept pets, but some do. Keep searching for options that work for you.
  • If your pet is ill: Contact a Norwegian veterinarian. Regular fees may apply, so ask for an estimate when booking. If you are in a refugee center, staff can help you find a local veterinarian. Major vet chains like Evidensia and Anicura operate across Norway.
  • For additional support: Eurogroup for Animals, of which we are members, is working to help pets affected by the war in Ukraine, including facilitating safe evacuation and movement across borders.

We hope this information is helpful. Thank you for caring for your pet during this challenging time.
